Thinking about which tablelcoth I would use for
our July contest,I could have used some very stunning ones I have, but of all my tablelcloths this one is the most dear
to me. Why......because it was my Grandmother's from Deming,NM. It was given to me after she passed away in 1986,as
was her Rooster set above. I was lucky enough to have my Grandmother(My Mother's Mom) until she was 97 years old.
Beginning when I was about 9 years old, each summer my parents put me on a bus in San Bernardino,CA.,to go visit my Grandma
for a month in Deming. I was placed right behind the bus driver, with a note,to keep an eye on me until I safely arrived
in Deming,NM. LOL..I still have one of those notes written to the bus driver from one summer. Those summers with my
Grandmother Kimball are memories that are so very dear. I never knew my Grandfather Kimball,as he passed away the year I was
born from throat cancer. He was almost 18 years older than my Grandmother. Everyone in Deming knew &
loved my Grannie....she lived there 71 years before she moved out here with my Mom in her late 80's. She came to Deming from
Texas with her family in a covered wagon. Her father had remarried. My Grandmother lost her mother when she
was 7 years old..she was the oldest of 4 children from that first family & than had 6 more step-brothers & sisters
from her Father's second marriage. She was the oldest of all of the combined children & a second mother to them all.
She learned early to cook, sew, garden, keep house & as it was a big family.
Her home in Deming was on a sprawling 15 acres. On her property she
started one of the first churches in Deming. I loved getting up early & helping her get everything ready for
Sabbath morning when I visited. She always had a lunch at her house for a visiting minister or family from out
of town. Behind her home she had apartments for people who needed help in their elderly years...meals..baths & a
companion to watch over them. She only charged them whatever little they could pay. She was a mid-wife,helped at the
funeral home & she sewed cloths & made quilts for any needy family in Deming.
Well, when I would visit I would help her go out to feed all her
animals! She had this huge..well he seemd oh so big to me,Red Rooster...that his total goal when I was there...was
to terrorize me! He would chase me from the barn all the way back to the house....trying to peck & jump on me.
On a returning summer he was no where to be found. Had he been sent away..eaten...I never knew! It was very
peaceful in the Barnyard when I came to visit. So when returning the next summer I brought my Grandmother for a
present this Brand new Red Rooster TC. She loved it & used it every morning for a breakfast cloth. Now it is
mine to remind me of her at our breakfasts. My boys & my Granddaughters all know about The "Big Red Rooster"
that lived in Deming,NM. :-) My boys adored their Great Grandmother Kimball & were able to have her in their lives until
they were 12 & 14 years old. The old Tin Pie Safe you see in the pictures was also my Grandmother's...& the
old coffee tin.. & stoneware. I used some of my Metlox Red Rooster paltes with my vintange Fiesta, Red HLC Red syrup &
Harlequin. The Old tin Syrup can was my Grandmothers also...I put syrup in it to use on a breakfast table. A minister
once told me from Deming...."When you Ate At Annie Kimball's table..you were Blest.....Best Food I Ever Had"
THIS TABLE IS FOR YOU ANNIE
OH NO......IT'S THAT RED ROOSTER |

My husband surprised me with these darling old
tin canisters he found at a garage sale just down the road from us. I love all things related to a Farm~~Barnyard,so
just had to set them up on my Pie Safe for display. The detail on them is just so great! We used to have & raise chickens
here in the desert & sell fresh eggs. Not to mention our goats & sold the milk too. Enjoy.
